Established in 2006, the Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management (CHPPM) envisions a health system that is equitable, efficient, and responsive to the diverse needs of the population. The Centre aspires to be a leader in advancing evidence-based health policy and management practices that strengthen health systems and promote health for all.

CHPPM’s vision aligns with the concept of Vikasit Bharat, 2047, and is grounded in the belief that improving population health requires not only strong health systems but also an understanding of the broader social, economic, and political factors that influence health. By drawing attention to these determinants, within India and globally, the Centre seeks to promote fairness, inclusivity, and accountability in health policy and practice.

Through its commitment to high-quality research, innovative teaching, action projects, and policy advocacy, CHPPM aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. The Centre emphasizes the equity and efficiency dimensions of health policy and financing, as well as the effective management and delivery of health services, to ensure that health systems serve the needs of the most vulnerable.

In pursuing this vision, CHPPM strives to inform policy and enrich public debate, nurture a new generation of health professionals and leaders, and continually evolve in response to emerging health challenges. Guided by the principles of equity, democracy, and social justice, the Centre aims to shape and influence health-related policies and programmes at the national and global levels through concerted efforts in teaching, research, and action.

Academics, Research & Action Focus:

• To impart postgraduate, pre-doctoral, doctoral, and post-doctoral professional education in the fields of health policy, planning, financing, health technology assessment, and management to a diverse group of learners, including public health and allied health professionals.
• To undertake policy research and implementation initiatives in collaboration with national and international partners and other ground-level stakeholders, with the objective of generating new knowledge and evidence to influence health policy and improve community health outcomes.
• To contribute to the advancement of healthcare and development by generating scientific evidence, disseminating research through publications, demonstrating outreach programmes, and fostering networks and collaborations with similar institutions and organizations.
• To document and analyze the ongoing health reform processes in the country, particularly in the areas of health policy, financing, and public–private partnerships, aimed at achieving national health goals.
• To provide collaborative and continuing support to the School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS) programmes, and to actively engage in teaching, training, research, and extension activities.

Faculty:

The Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management (CHPPM) currently has five faculty members representing diverse disciplinary backgrounds and research expertise. The team comprises three Professors, one Associate Professor, and one Assistant Professor, collectively contributing to the Centre’s academic, research, and policy initiatives.
