He uses quantitative and mixed-methods approach to explore his research interests in the broader domains of public health, health policy and systems research with particular focus on health financing. He has keen interest in understanding the health challenges and health needs of the population, especially the vulnerable population groups, the specific issues faced by them in accessing health services as well as in studying health policies and programmes.
He has over 16 years (post PhD) of experience in carrying out policy-focused research at national and international academic institutions on some of the topics like health equity, universal health coverage/care, access to medicine, critical analysis of tax-funded health insurance programmes, user-charges, issues related to health service delivery, social determinants of diseases, assessment of medical impoverishment, impact evaluation of health insurance programmes, economic costs of NCDs, living conditions of tea garden workers, health and nutritional status of tribal populations, social exclusion, and new health financing arrangements.
He was awarded the prestigious Yusuf Hamied Fellowship in 2022 at the Center for Health Policy and Management, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. In 2015-2016, he received the Erasmus Mundus Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Department of Economics and Business Economics, Aarhus University, Denmark. Additionally, Dr. Ghosh was a recipient of the University of Hawaii Fellowship for participating in the Seminar on Health Systems at the East-West Center in Hawaii, USA, during the summer of 2010. In 2009, he served as a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Population and Development Studies at Harvard University. He also received the UGC-JRF award for his doctoral studies (2004-2008) in 2003, as well as the Government of India Fellowship for pursuing an MPS in the academic year 2003-2004.
Dr. Ghosh received Best Poster Award by Social Science and Medicine (Elsevier) at Health Systems in Asia conference at National University of Singapore during December 13-16, 2013. His research has been published in public health, health policy and economics journals such as PLoS Medicine, British Medical Journal and Economic and Political Weekly.
