Campus Conversations: Gender and Sexuality in the Everyday of Higher Education

We are delighted to partner with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for our ‘Campus Conversations’ initiative that aims to increase visibility to gender and sexuality in higher education. The initiative is based on the premise of the higher educational campus as a multi-layered and porous physical and digital space. It focuses on generating conversations around respectful gender relations outside of legal or punitive regulatory protocols, and across diverse languages and social locations. We also focus on mainstreaming gender perspectives and concepts in university curricula at the postgraduate level.

‘Campus Conversations’ focuses on invisible aspects of social norming. As such, we expect the initiative to generate shifts in conversational vocabulary and pedagogic dynamics on campus. We foresee a better understanding about the intersectionality of gendered vulnerability, and a better cognizance of non-heteronormative gender and sexuality expressions on campus.

Feminist Calendar

The Women and Gender Development Cell (WGDC) of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, is trying to curate a ‘Feminist Calendar’ to document the unknown or lesser known histories and struggles around gender and sexuality in South Asia and elsewhere, including their impacts on education. It is an attempt to bridge the information gap present in the dominant discourse and to collate as many dates and events that have historically been unrepresented but have played a significant part in improving our societies.
