School of Law, Rights & Constitutional Governance (SLRCG), TISS, Mumbai joins with DLSA Mumbai for Legal Awareness Session on “Rights & Safeguards for Juveniles under National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024”  on 19th July, 2025 at VES Law College, Mumbai.

 

A Legal Awareness Session on “Rights & Safeguards for Juveniles under National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024” was organized by Vivekanand Educational Society, College of Law, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mumbai, and School of Law, Rights & Constitutional Governance (SLRCG), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai on 19th July, 2025 at VES Law College, Mumbai.

The objective of the session was to disseminate knowledge among the young law students on contemporary socio-legal issues of juveniles, favourable legal aid schemes, and the facilitating role played by DLSA in accessing the same through the active involvement of law students. This is part of the  NALSA, Common Minimum Programme aimed at legal literacy and awareness in society.

 

The session was introduced by Dr. Jayshree Kanchanpurkarm, the respected Principal, VES Law College, Mumbai. This was graced by the presence of Shri P.G. Tapadiya, Hon'ble  Secretary, DLSA, Mumbai, and Shri Mukul Chitale, Hon'ble  Secretary, Mumbai Suburban District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) , who made the students aware of the functional and practical aspects of DLSA, how students can associate and connect with initiatives of DLSA.

The technical session on NALSA (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children)” and the special provisions for juveniles to strengthen their legal rights and remedies were delivered by Dr. Sonali Kusum, Asst. Prof. ( Law), SLRCG, TISS, Mumbai. She urged the law students to be informed citizens and problem solvers in society by guiding their family, friends, and community on relevant legal recourse.

One of the highlights of the session was the screening of the innovative Nukkad Natak or Skit Display on the NALSA Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC ), written, developed, and performed by the LL.M Students of SLRCG ( 2024 – 2025 batch), placed for clinical legal fieldwork at DLSA, Mumbai. The session was very well received, with reflections from participants and and question-and-answer session.
