Stephen Pamei holds a BA and an MA in Sociology from the University of Madras and a PhD in Sociology from Pondicherry University. He is currently an Assistant Professor and Chairperson of the Centre for Sociology and Social Anthropology at the Tata Institute of Social SciencesGuwahati Off-Campus.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributed chapters to edited volumes. He has completed one research project funded by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences Research Council. He is currently undertaking another research project sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. He has also organised a National Seminar sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, North Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-NERC). In addition, he has played an active role in designing the curricula for the MA and BASS programmes. His teaching and research interests include interdisciplinary studies, sociological theory, research methods, social demography, environment and society, ethnicity and conflict, urban studies, and cultural studies.
