Assistant Professor, Centre Chairperson, Centre for Health and Social Sciences School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS) , Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, November 2019 – Till date
Assistant Professor, School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS) , Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, 2 March 2015 – October 2019.
Dr. Priyanka Dixit is an Assistant Professor and Chairperson at the Centre for Health and Social Sciences, School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. She joined TISS in 2015 as an Assistant Professor and has been serving as the Centre Chairperson since 2019.
Dr. Priyanka Dixit is a trained quantitative researcher with experience in designing, analysing, and evaluating large-scale population-based surveys, including LASI, NFHS, DLHS, GATS, and other national datasets. Over the past decade, she has contributed to empirical research on NCD chronic diseases, Maternal and Child Health, Reproductive Health, Sexual Health of Vulnerable Population Health Inequalities and Health Systems Performance in India. She has published widely in peer-reviewed national and international journals such as Population Studies, JAMA Network, Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, PLOS One, PLOS Mental Health, BMC Public Health, Journal of Clinical Hypertension, and Journal of Health, Population and Nutrition, among others.
Her research applies epidemiological and statistical methods—longitudinal modelling, decomposition analysis, interaction modelling, multivariate regression, and causal inference techniques—to understand the determinants of health and disease across the life course. A substantial body of her work focuses on chronic and non-communicable diseases among older adults in India using the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI), contributing evidence on cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, chronic lung diseases, cognitive impairment, and multimorbidity.
Dr. Priyanka Dixit has led and contributed to several major research and evaluation projects. Notably, she serves as a lead for the Independent Monitoring and Supervision of Primary Health Care Provisioning through Health and Wellness Centres (Ayushman Arogya Mandir Initiative) in the state of Uttarakhand. Her other research projects span maternal health inequalities, reproductive health behaviour, health facility performance, and national tobacco-control policy evaluation.
Her earlier research includes influential work on fertility intentions, unwanted births, maternal health service utilisation, caesarean section trends, socioeconomic inequalities in hypertension, and childhood malnutrition using national datasets over multiple decades.
Dr. Priyanka Dixit holds a PhD and brings more than a decade of academic and research experience at the intersection of population health, public health systems, and epidemiological research. She actively mentors students and collaborates with researchers across institutions, contributing to evidence-based policymaking and public health scholarship in India.
