Premalatha is a graduate in Rehabilitation Science and a Post Graduate, (MBA) in Human Resource Management. She has cleared the State Level Eligibility Testing (SLET), UGC in the area of Management. She has completed her Ph.D on ‘Retaining Knowledge Workers in Indian IT Services Industry: A Grounded Theory Study’ from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
She has conducted research projects for Shipping Corporation of India, Goa Shipyard Limited and Auroville consulting and quite a few Management Development Programs. Her areas of interest for teaching, research and consultancy assignments are Individual Dynamics and Leadership, Group and Organizational Processes, Human Resource Management, Learning and Development, Competency Management, Assessment Center, Human Resource Planning, Appreciative Inquiry and Qualitative Research Methodology. She has designed competency based interventions for organisations.
She has been in academics for nineteen years. Currently, she is working as Associate Professor in Centre for Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, School of Management and Labour Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai since April 2012. Prior to joining TISS, Mumbai, she was working with NMIMS, Mumbai and ICFAI Business School, Bangalore. She was also a Visiting Faculty in Indian Institute of Management, Indore and Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi.
In her research published in leading national and international journals, Premalatha has looked at issues of burnout, the impact of leader-member exchange on retention of knowledge workers, return on retention, industrial relations competencies and organisational civility, and the implications of grounded theory for organisation studies.
