Nilesh embarked on his journey in the field of education by pursuing a diploma in teacher education. Subsequently, he worked as a teacher in a poorly resourced government-aided school in Nagpur. Seeking to enhance his knowledge and skills, Nilesh enrolled at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, where he pursued MA and MPhil degrees in Education. Later, he worked as a Research Associate at the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education, TISS, Mumbai.
Nilesh's academic endeavors expanded beyond the borders as he became the recipient of a 6-week UGC-UKEIRI research grant. During this period, he worked with Prof. Christopher Winch of King's College London.
Nilesh's research delves into ideological shifts in the governance and provision of education emanating from neoliberal policies in education and the ways in which those impact the lives, educational aspirations, work opportunities and identities of marginalised castes and communities in India.
