Dr Archana Singh is Assistant Professor, and Chairperson at Centre for Social Entrepreneurship, School of Management and Labour Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai (India). She did her Master in Social Work (MSW) from Dr B R Ambedkar University, Agra (Formerly known as Agra University); and MPhil and PhD in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. Her PhD research was focused on ‘Social Entrepreneurship’.
Prior to her academic career, she worked in development sector on several social issues, such as women's empowerment, women's SHGs, AIDS awareness among sex workers, etc.
She joined Centre for Social Entrepreneurship as a faculty in 2013, after completing her PhD. She, primarily teaches 'Social Sector Perspectives and Social Entrepreneurship', and 'Qualitative Research' to the students of Master in Arts in Social Entrepreneurship (MASE). She also teaches 'Qualitative Research' to the students of Dual Master in International Development Practice in offered by TISS, Mumbai in collaboration with the Monash University, Australia.
She co-teaches Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) course titled 'Social Value Creation and Social Innovation' to the students of TISS Mumbai.
Apart from teaching at TISS Mumbai campus, she also teaches 'Social Entrepreneurship' to the students of MA in Rural Development and Governance (MARDG) and Development studies (MADS) at TISS Hyderabad campus. In addition, she teaches social entrepreneurship to the participants of Online Programme in Social Entrepreneurship (OPSE).
She guides PhD scholars interested in the areas related to social entrepreneurship, and also entrepreneurship. Her scholars are currently working in the areas of women social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial eco-system, agro-forestry in north-east areas.
In addition, she has also been constantly engaged in mentoring nascent social entrepreneurs. She also has experience of organizing international conferences on social entrepreneurship.
In 2016, she visited Kennesaw State University (KSU), Georgia, Atlanta to teach 'social entrepreneurship and social venture creation' to the Masters students there.
In the same year, she published her book titled 'The Process of Social Value creation: A Multiple Case Study on Social Entrepreneurship in India' (Springer India). In 2021, she co-edited a book titled 'Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development', published by Routledge. In addition, she has published several papers in reputed international journals, and also Chapters in edited books.
She has been invited as a Key Note Speaker at various National and International Conferences.
Social entrepreneurship, social value, social change, interface between social entrepreneurship and social work, women empowerment, corporate social responsibility, and other periphery areas are her main interest research areas.
