Centre for Population, Health and Development has been consistently engaged in the articulation of the relationship between population, health and development through research and teaching at MA , MPhil and PhD levels.The Centre faculty are actively engaged in analysing secondary data from various sources and conducting empirical studies in the areas of population, health and development. The major thematic areas the centre currently focussing on Demographic Changes, Population Dynamics and Epidemiological and Nutritional Transitions, Sexual and Reproductive Health , Issues of Ageing and Tribal Health and Development.

This Centre has been involved in major research projects that include “Socio economic Status of Tribal Women in the Context of Skill Development: A Study in Andhra Pradesh”, sponsored by the ICSSR, New Delhi; “Baseline Study of Impact India Foundations Community Health Initiatives”, sponsored by Impact India Foundation, Mumbai ; “Maternal Health Status of Tribal Women: A Study of Regional Diversity in Three States of India”, sponsored by the ICMR; “Enhancing the Quality of Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives through Research and Training”, sponsored by JSW Foundation, Mumbai; “Increased Awareness, Access and Quality of Elderly Services in India”, sponsored by the UNFPA, New Delhi. The Centre is also co-ordinating the UGC’s E-Pathshala project for the preparation of e-books in the subject of Population Studies.

The faculty of the centre has authored a book titled, " The Parsi Elderly: To live with Dignity" published by Sage publications which is a part of 4 volume series on "The Parsis of India: Continuing at the Crossroads". The Centre is anchoring the activities of Indian Association for Social Sciences and Health, a professional body of Social Scientists working actively in the field of health.
