Day Care Centre

Employees of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) recognised the need for a dedicated Day Care Centre (DCC) to support their children while they are engaged in teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities. In response, the Institute established a model Day Care Centre with support from the University Grants Commission (UGC), reflecting its commitment to employee welfare and institutional development.

The Day Care Centre is located beneath the faculty quarters and spans an area of 1,000 sq. ft. The facility includes three well-designed rooms for children and a kitchen, creating a safe, functional, and child-friendly environment. The primary objective of the DCC is to provide high-quality daycare services that support the holistic development of children during working hours.

The DCC offers nurturing care in a clean, safe, secure, stimulating, and healthy learning environment. It supports children’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, language, psychological, and intellectual development. A developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum is designed for different age groups, encouraging exploration, experimentation, creativity, and self-expression.

The Centre follows child-centred and developmentally appropriate practices, addressing individual needs through structured play and activity-based learning. A balanced adult-child ratio is maintained by trained, experienced, and dedicated staff to ensure attentive and responsive care.

A wide range of indoor and outdoor activities are conducted during working hours using age-appropriate play materials. These include celebrations of national and religious festivals, Institute Day, and various play-based learning activities such as rhymes, songs, and storytelling. Children engage with themes like fruits and vegetables, flowers and trees, forest animals, food grains, traffic and vehicles, shapes and sizes, numbers, space, and the environment through nature walks, drawing, and colouring activities. Nutritious snacks are also provided to promote health and nutritional well-being.

Based on the needs of parents, special services are provided to children during holidays. The Day Care Programme is implemented according to the rules and regulations formulated by the institute.
