The School of Law, Rights and Constitutional Governance (SLRCG), TISS Mumbai, in collaboration with the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR), Bengaluru is organizing value-based sessions on “Constitutional Ethics & Constitutional Culture” on the eve of the 75th year of Constitutional Day (26th November), 2024. As the Constitution of India is the ground norm or lexi loci of the nation, the SLRCG is committed to upholding constitutional education through its One Year Master of Laws, LL.M in Access to Justice Curriculum. This is part of the taught courses under the LL.M Programme and this is in compliance with the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 mandate. In lieu of this, the SLRCG, TISS Mumbai in collaboration with the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR), Bengaluru, are organizing Value-based sessions through series of academic activities as following:
I. Supreme Court Observer (SCO) Workshop on Research Skills & Legal Journalism on 8th November, 2024, at SLRCG, TISS, Mumbai.
Supreme Court Observer is a legal journalism platform that reports, analyses Supreme Court’s judgements. It aims to build a non-partisan database of the Supreme Court's contribution to our everyday lives, through daily reporting on selected cases. The SCO workshop aims to introduce students to the Supreme Court and its role in preserving constitutional democracy, to orient students on how to systematically engage with Supreme Court cases and to expose students to the key processes and materials. Over the years, SCO has conducted around 40 Indian Constitutional History and Supreme Court Workshops at various institutions across the country.
II. The Constitutional Ethics & Constitutional Culture Quiz as ConQuest, 2024 on 9th November, 2024 at S. Parsuraman Hall, Main Campus TISS, Mumbai.
The SLRCG, TISS, Mumbai is glad to announce and welcome all to to attend and participate in the ConQuest 2024: India's Premier National Quiz on India's Constitution, History and Politics. Since its first edition in 2016, ConQuest has grown to become the largest quiz and educational activity that celebrates India’s constitutional history and politics. ConQuest encourages undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines, including natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, humanities, and law, to engage with the Indian Constitution, law, politics, history and current affairs. These include Bachelor’s and Master’s students. The ConQuest quiz is anchored by the Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR), it is a not-for-profit trust that was started in 2009 by Ms. Jayna Kothari, Executive Director, CLPR and Senior Advocate, Hight Court of Karnataka and Supreme Court of India,
and Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Managing Trustee, CLPR. CLPR believes in making the Constitution work for everyone.
Resource Persons:
Mr. Vineeth Krishna E.: Mr. Vineeth is a Senior Research Associate & Editor at CLPR. He leads the Constitutional Culture team that he helped set up in 2015. He graduated with a B.A. in Political Science, Sociology and Economics from St. Joseph's College of Arts and Science, Bangalore. He completed an M.A. in Development (Law and Governance) at the Azim Premji University, Bangalore. Vineeth has anchored around 50 constitutional education workshops for diverse audiences including school, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students at institutions across the country. Some of these include the IIT Bombay, the National Law Schools, Jawaharlal Nehru University, St Stephen's College and Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media. His academic interests include political theory, intellectual history and comparative politics
Ms. Gauri Kashyap: Ms. Gauri is the Associate Editor for the Supreme Court Observer - a living archive of the Supreme Court of India. She graduated with a B.A. (Hons.) LL.B from School of Law, Christ University. She completed her LL.M in Intellectual Property at Bournemouth University. At SCO, Gauri leads a team of writers, editors and reporters that cover key Supreme Court cases. She has conducted workshops on the Supreme Court in schools, colleges and for the general public.
