About :

This is a part of the academic curriculum, and this has contemporary significance in light of the recent criminal manual developments in India.

With the recent Bharatiya Nayaya Samhita,2023 and related legislations, there is an emphasis on rights and safeguards for women‘s safety and security, thus, there is a felt need for knowledge dissemination on the same.

The concept of gender lawyering in line is reiterated by the Supreme Court, direction in Apana Bhat Vs State of Madhya Pradesh , SC. 2021.

Besides, several LLM students are presently writing LL.M research dissertations and assignments on gender rights and related issues. This will be useful for the same.

The purpose and the intent is to offer an opportunity to link this with , the Career Opportunities for Law Students in Majlis, Mumbai. As the organization, Majlis offers litigation, documentation, counseling, legal aid, and professional opportunities for the LLM students to seek future recruitment in the Majlis organization. Hence, extending an invitation to the Director Majlis, give a platform for better recruitment opportunities for LLM Students.

The session has these objectives as following:

• To orient students about contemporary legislative and judicial developments on gender rights from the court room and litigating gender lawyer’s perspective.

• To familiarize with lawyering skills and strategies for gender lawyering in line with the Judicial directions.

• To facilitate recruitment and career avenues for LLM Students for the gender rights lawyering.

About The Speaker :

Ms. Audrey Dmello, Director , Majlis, Mumbai. She joined Majlis in 2007 as a Programme Director. Majlis is a team of women lawyers and social workers who work for the protection and promotion of women and children’s rights through legal representation, advocacy, and training. She obtained a degree in law from Bombay University and a post graduate degree in management from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai.

One of her major effort is to develop Majlis’ collaborations with the Government on some of the crucial areas, “the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005” and “RAHAT”, a survivor support programme for victims of sexual assault. She has developed legal literacy materials, protocols, guidelines and training modules on the gender rights.
