Advancing Access to Justice through Fieldwork
On 28 April 2026, a Legal Awareness Seminar on Victim Compensation Schemes was held at Mazgaon City Civil & Sessions Court, Mumbai.
Organised by District Legal Services Authority Mumbai (DLSA, Mumbai) and School of Law, Rights & Constitutional Governance (SLRCG, TISS), the session engaged 35 Mumbai-based civil society organisations in understanding pathways to access free legal aid, including counselling, documentation, and compensation under the Manodhairya Scheme.
The seminar aimed to equip organisations working with victims of violence to better navigate both pre-litigation and litigation processes, ensuring effective access to support and compensation mechanisms.
Rooted in LL.M fieldwork (2025–26), this student-led initiative reflects a commitment to community-centred development, contributing to the Viksit Bharat vision and aligning with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions).
The seminar will culminate in a report with case studies and legal strategies for victim assistance.
