What does it take to build resilient, inclusive and future-ready cities for a Viksit Bharat?
On 25 March 2026, the Jamsetji Tata School of Disaster Studies TISS, convened a thought-provoking public lecture on Institutional Capacity Enhancement, Climate and Disaster Resilience, and Viksit Bharat as part of the Viksit Bharat Lecture Series.
The lecture was delivered by Mr. Praveen Singh Pardesi (IAS; CEO, Maharashtra Institute for Transformation (MITRA); Chief Economic Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra). He reflected on the multiple pathways shaping India’s development trajectory, while drawing attention to the structural and governance challenges faced by rapidly growing cities such as Mumbai.
Prof. Amita Bhide (School of Habitat Studies, TISS Mumbai) highlighted the complexities embedded within institutional frameworks, emphasising the need for stronger, more adaptive capacity to translate vision into meaningful outcomes. This was followed by insightful remarks from Prof. Badri Narayan Tiwari (Vice-Chancellor, TISS), who underscored ongoing institutional capacity-building efforts and the encouraging transformations unfolding across rural India.
The discussion underscored that achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 requires not only economic growth, but also resilient institutions, integrated planning, and sustained collaboration across sectors.
As we celebrate 90 years of TISS, such dialogues reaffirm our commitment to shaping knowledge, policy, and practice towards a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable future.
