Anu Joy is a teacher, teacher educator, and education researcher. She holds a Ph.D. in Science Education from the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru (2012). Her teaching and research interests are in the areas of cognition and learning, cognitive ethnography of science learning, curriculum and pedagogy, teacher professional development, and qualitative research methods in education. Her work primarily focuses on developing research-based curriculum and pedagogies for the meaningful learning of science in schools. She has taught at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru (2012-2015), where she designed and facilitated courses on cognition and learning, pedagogy of science education, and curriculum studies. Anu works with children on learning projects and seeks to bring a democratic approach to the teaching-learning process, valuing the learners' experiences, abilities, and socio-cultural context. She has been involved in science teacher professional development programs with the states of Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana. Before joining TISS-Hyderabad, Anu was a post-doctoral fellow at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad (2018-2021).

Ongoing researh projects
Research on Kerala School Education started in February 2023. 1. Designing research-based curriculum, pedagogy, and learning programs for Kerala School Education 2. Developing a curriculum on climate change and sustainability for Kerala schools
Projects Completed
Designed and developed modules on Mapping and Visual Representation for the Grade 9 of the Delhi School of Board Education. This module is taught to students as part of the Humanities and Social Sciences Curriculum under the Delhi Board of School Education. The work involved module conceptualization and writing, development of lesson plans and worksheets, writing modules for teachers, and conducting teacher training. This was done in collaboration with CETE-TISS, Mumbai, and funded by the Delhi Board of School Education, Delhi Government.
Ddeveloped modules on integrated science teaching for the high schools of the JNV South region in colloboration with science teacher of JNV.
