Third International Conference on 'Punishment in Global Peripheries'

Third International Conference on 'Punishment in Global Peripheries'

The Third International Conference on 'Punishment in Global Peripheries' was jointly organised by the Global Criminal Justice Hub, Oxford Centre for Criminology (United Kingdom), the Programa Delito y Sociedad, Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Argentina), and the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (India).

The conference explored the complexities of punishment in peripheral countries and debated 'what constitutes the peripheries.' It unraveled the complexities of penal trends, institutions, and practices in peripheral settings and shared innovative methodological and theoretical perspectives for understanding peripheral realities.

Amazing perspectives from Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Turkey, Israel, Jamaica, Indonesia, Trinidad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, USA and the host country India.

On the sidelines of the conference, we are very happy to announce that, we initiated a formal paperwork to sign an MoU with the Centre for Criminology, Department of Law, University of Oxford. The MoU was signed on behalf of TISS by the Officiating Registrar Prof. Sasmita Palo in the presence of Prof. Ian Loader, Director of the Centre for Criminology, Oxford University. The MoU aims to facilitate engaging in collaborative research as well as student and faculty exchange.
