Prof. Shalini Bharat (Director, TISS) and Ms. Shweta Bajaj (Senior Programme Manager, Saksham-TISS) attended the high-level summit organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India (MoHFW-GoI) at Varanasi to observe World TB Day 2023.
Saksham, a Field Action Project of TISS, partners with the MoHFW-GoI and supports the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme for counselling aspects and addressing social determinants of TB .
The Summit showcased India’s effective journey towards the goal of TB elimination, despite the hardships of the pandemic. The Summit was graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi
In March 2018, at the Delhi End TB Summit, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India articulated India’s commitment to achieving TB-related SDGs targets by 2025, five years ahead of time and also re-affirmed India’s desire for an illness-free world for everyone, devoid of anyone’s suffering. The G20 brings space to focus on public health interventions of the country in diverse areas.
