Winter Institute

This is a two credit intensive field exposure activity.

Gondia Winter Institute: In 2017, the Winter Institute was organised in collaboration with Bhandara Nisarga Va Sanskruti Abhyas Mandal (BNSAM) at Morgaon-Arjuni, Gondia (Maharashtra). The objective of the Winter Institute was to study the claims and management practices associated with a traditional water management system known as Ex-Malgujari Tanks exists in Eastern Vidarbha.

Bankura Winter Institute: In 2016, Winter Institute was organised in collaboration with Revitalizing Rainfed Agriculture Network (RRAN) and Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN) at Bankura, West Bengal. The objective of the winter institute was to understand the character of the rain-fed areas including its environmental and socio-economic dimensions and to analyse the efficacy of NAREGA scheme in implementing water conservation measures at village level and its impact on livelihood.

Kerala Winter Institute: In 2014, the winter was held in collaboration with IIT Bombay in Kerala. The field work included the assessment of the proposed Athirapally Hydro Electric Power Project on the Chalakudy River. This 12 day rigorous field exposure involved the students to assess the different stakeholders involved in such kind of a developmental project. It included studying the project from the displacement of the tribals and their livelihood, ecology and biodiversity, the social movement started by the people, the Kerala State Electricity Board and the different departments of the State and their involvement in the project. Students also conducted a survey in the affected area to understand the impact such kind of a project will have in the irrigation and cultivation of Paddy and the availability of water. It made students reflect on the issues such a developmental project from different perspectives of various stakeholders.

Regulatory Clinic

This is a 2 credit course spread across Semesters II and III of Masters in Regulatory Governance. Students gain real-life exposure and experience to regulatory proceedings by participating in public hearings conducted by MERC, MWRRA. In the past years, students were exposed to the challenges and opportunities of engaging and contributing in live regulatory issues and processes. This involved students making presentations to regulatory bodies like MWRRA on water tariff modeling. It also involved responding to the Consultation Paper on Media Regulation by TRAI.
