About us:
The School of Gender and Livelihoods [SGL] aims to infuse a critical gender lens into developmental and livelihood concerns and viće-versa, in its knowledge engagement. Evolving from the epistemic and methodological principles of Gender Studies and Livelihoods, SGL would pursue advanced and distinct pathways to respond to growing developmental and livelihood complexities that are ubiquitous yet socio-culturally and politically unique in nature.
The School offers the Master’s programme in Livelihoods that will cater to two degree strands
MA in Livelihoods : Gender and Development
MA in Livelihoods : Rural Development
The unique curriculum and innovative pedagogy will bring the imperativeness of the specificities of questions & concerns of gender, development and ruralities of the contemporary times. Responding to these inter- and multidisciplinary specificities, the M.A Livelihoods programme encompasses four domains. These domains are cross-cutting and enable learners to engage with pertinent topical concerns from a multidimensional perspective that is the need-of-the-hour, as follows:
This re-imagination of knowledge paradigms necessitates an evolved approach to multi- and interdisciplinarity to understand and address development issues. On this premise, the School of Gender and Livelihoods emerged as a single entity with the integration of the Schools of Gender Studies and Livelihoods and Development at TISS, Hyderabad off-campus.
The School has 12 faculties whose multi-disciplinary orientations combined with rich field experience add strength, purpose and depth in the delivery of the academic programs including student research.
