Four day National Workshop on Qualitative Research Methodology

The workshop is organised by School of Research Methodology in association with TISS Alums Association (TISSAA).

About the Programme

The aim of the Four Day National Workshop on 'Qualitative Research Methodology' is to enable the participants to operate the ATLAS­TI and NVIVO software on their own and to understand when and what type of qualitative research method to use.

Workshop Objectives

The objective of this workshop are:

  • To provide a comprehensive over view of qualitative research framework and nuances of designing studies using qualitative methods
  • To provide hands­on training in the applications of ATLAS­TI and NVIVO software in qualitative research data processing
  • To acquire expertise in identifying appropriate qualitative tools for different types of research objectives

Course Content

  • Why Qualitative Research Approach
  • Uses of qualitative research
  • Differences qualitative and quantitative approach
  • Types of qualitative research methods - In-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussion
  • Transcription of qualitative data
  • Analysis of Qualitative Data coding, memos, relationship
  • Data Management using Atlas-ti and Nvivo software
  • Reporting and presetation of qualitative findings

Workshop Dynamics

Basic understanding of the concept of qualitative research methodology is necessary to appreciate the program. Hence, the workshop will start with some theoretical input sessions so as to help the participants to brush the knowledge in basic research methods. These sessions will be followed by software enabled practical training with demonstration. Thus both theoretical and practical sessions will be arranged so that the participants could understand, appreciate and able to meaningfully interpret the output.

For better learning experience, the participants are requested to bring the following to the workshop:

  • Laptop, ATLAS­TI software installed in the laptop (optional)
  • Own qualitative research data (if the data is available)

Participant Selection

The participants will be selected on the first come first serve basis

The seats are limited, if the number of seats gets filled before the last date of application, no subsequent applications will be accepted

Eligibility :

Researchers, M. Phil/Ph.D research scholars and NGO working in social sciences subjects in any sector will benefit from participating in this workshop.

Course Fees: Note: The workshop course fee on Qualitative Research Methodology is Rs. 6,000.00 and for TISS Alumni Rs. 5000.00 per person. The fee will cover course materials, workshop certificate, group photograph, tea and lunch during the workshop. Payment can be made through cheque (multi city) /Demand Draft in favor of 'TISS', payable at Mumbai. The number of participants for the workshop is restricted to 40. The last date for receiving application is 5th June 2018.

Accomdation: a limited seats on twin share basis will be available in guest house @ 2000/- per room per day if informed in advance. Participants will have to bear their own expenses for travel, boarding and lodging.
