The Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (TISS) invites applications for participation in the Winter Training Workshop on ‘Developments in Climate Change and Sustainable Development’. The Workshop will be held from 21st November -4th December 2017 at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai

Background

The Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies at TISS will conduct four workshops under the project for “Human Capacity Building Programmes under National Mission for Strategic Knowledge on Climate Change” supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The objective of conducting the workshops is to build capacities to understand the multi-dimensional and complex nature of climate change. Of these four workshops, two will be directed towards building capacities of climate change practitioners from the social sciences, in understanding contemporary developments in climate science and the technical aspects of mitigation, adaptation and sustainable development. The remaining two workshops will be aimed at building capacities of climate change practitioners from natural science and engineering backgrounds in the social, political and economic dimensions of understanding climate change, its impacts, and the required and proposed interventions. A team of expert faculty will provide comprehensive engagement with the relevant scholarship and field studies to the participants of these workshops. The aim will be to go beyond simply training one set of practitioners in other disciplines, but to build an interdisciplinary understanding of how different disciplines interact and influence each other in the arena of climate change and sustainable development, both in terms of the theory and practice.
