Advanced Centre for Women's Studies is  co-organizing a two day in-person event titled 'Rethinking autism: Multiple perspectives' as part of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd and 3rd, 2023 at TISS Mumbai. This programme is in collaboration with Department of Liberal Arts -IIT Hyderabad, Yash Charitable Trust, Mumbai and Forum For Autism, Mumbai.

On April 2nd, Sunday, we are having different speakers engage in a series of talks around the theme of 'Autism and Advocacy: Different Voices, Different Choices'. There will be a series of panels which comprise self-advocates, doctors, scientists, parent activists and academicians who will offer different perspectives on advocacy by engaging in conversations around the experiences of being on the spectrum, assumptions/prejudices faced and critical reflections around traditional notion of cure/'fixing' and everyday negotiations.

On April 3rd, Monday, there will be a number of participatory and experiential exercises, coordinated and executed by Yash Charitable Trust and Forum for Autism reflecting on various aspects of being on the autism spectrum.

We are also planning to disseminate the research findings of a qualitative study conducted jointly by Department of Liberal Arts, IIT Hyderabad and Advanced Centre for Women's Studies on families experiences with use of different therapies for autism.

Participation in the event is free. Prior registration is required to enable us to plan the logistics. The last date to register is March 25th 2023. Participants may register for either or both days.
