Prof. Rajni Kothari Lecture Series 2018 - "Experiencing Manto" by Nandita Das

Prof. Rajni Kothari Memorial Lecture Series at School of Development Studies Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai), in association with School of Media and Cultural Studies is pleased to invite you to a talk on 'Experiencing Manto'  by Nandita Das, celebrated actor and director of the upcoming film "Manto", based on the life of iconic writer Saadat Hasan Manto.  Manto is best known for his stories about the partition of India immediately following independence in 1947 and his stories have inspired generations of scholars and activists to promote peace and harmony across South Asia.

After the talk, Nandita Das releases trailer of Manto film &  Actors Rasika Duggal and Danish Hussain will share their experience of 'Making of Manto'.

Prof. Shalini Bharat, director -in-charge , TISS (Mumbai) will inaugurate the talk.

The Prof. Rajni Kothari Memorial Lecture Series is conducted  as part of  M.S. Gore Policy Research Group, a student forum for policy-related research and advocacy at the Centre for Public Policy, Habitat & Human Development, School of Development Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences(Mumbai)

Prof. Rajni Kothari (16 August 1928 - 19 January 2015) was a celebrated political scientist, academic- activist, author of the classic "Politics in India" and founder of Centre for the Study of Developing Societies and Lokayan. Rajni Kothari, scholar extraordinaire, preeminent political theorist and a visionary beyond compare, single-handedly revolutionized the study of politics in the country. His intellectual prowess and unwavering activism gave the country lasting institutions and ideals which have inspired countless generations of students and academicians and continue to do so.

The lecture series includes a set of interactive panel discussions with some of the most celebrated thinkers and scholars in India and abroad.
