ARCHIVING RESISTANCE: REPERTOIRE OF URBAN RESISTANCE IN JAKARTA

 

Speaker:

Elisa Sutanudjaja is educated as an architect. During her master's degree, she took a specialization in Sustainable & Urban Development. In 2009, she co-founded an NGO focused on urban and knowledge issues: Rujak Center for Urban Studies (RCUS). Her current position in RCUS is Executive Director. Elisa’s interests include urban studies and urbanism, right to adequate housing, informal economy, and mobility. She was an Eisenhower Fellow in 2013.

 

Inaugurated by:

Manjula Bharathy is Professor and Dean, School of Habitat Studies, TISS. She has been a Fulbright Research Scholar in Gender Studies at University of Rutgers, USA and was earlier Chief Operating Officer, Kudumbashree Mission, the Poverty Eradication Mission of Government of Kerala. Her recent book is Brick By Brick-Democratising Local Governance: Insights From the People’s Plan.

Formed in 2008, the Centre for Urban Policy & Governance is located within the School of Habitat Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

 

About the Series:

This seminar series is a collaborative effort between the Centre for Urban Policy and Governance, TISS Mumbai, and the Omidyar Network India. It aims to create interdisciplinary dialogue among academic scholars, practitioners, activists and policymakers on contemporary developments related to, and ongoing experiments in, making land and housing more accessible and inclusive.
