A HISTORY OF BUILDING REGULATIONS, MUMBAI 1880-2015: This talk traces the history of building regulations in Mumbai and its intersection with informal housing. Sukriti Issar will focus particularly on building height regulations, and explain the shifts in this policy from building heights to Floor Space Index and air rights. The second part of the talk will be workshop-style and focus on research writing strategies, tips and tricks useful for a wide audience of social science scholars.

Sukriti Issar is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Sciences Po and works mostly on how urban policies transforms cities. She specializes in urban governance, political economy, policy and institutional change, and research methods. Her work has appeared in World Politics, Social Service Review, and Journal of Historical Sociology. She is also an associate member of Nuffield College, University of Oxford. Sukriti She holds a BA from Lady Sri Ram College, a Masters in Communication from Cornell University, a PhD from Brown University and before working at Sciences Po she was a Post Doctoral fellow at Oxford.
